Rava Idlis with Peanut-Garlic Chutney (No-oil Sambar recipe included)

Date: 09-April-2020

Thought: Idlis are common breakfast menu for many. But what if you are running out of time? Here is an easy peezy Idli recipe with my very own version of peanut chutney.

You can even use the momo chutney (I already shared) to go with your Idlis. My version of simplest Sambar would be adding my choice of veggies, some water, salt, chilli, turmeric, roasted cumin-coriander powder, mustard seeds, bay leaf, curry leaves and tamarind pulp and finally microwaving it  all together for 20 mins. (Zero use of oil in Sambar recipe)

Ingredients:

For idlis:
  • 2/3 cup whisked curd
  • 1.5 cup of rava / sooji / semolina
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp of salt
For Peanut-Garlic chutney:
  • 1/2 cup of peanuts
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic
  • 1/3 cup of coriander stem-root paste
  • 2 tsp of chilli powder
  • salt, sugar as per taste
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard oil

Method:

For Idlis:
  • Mix curd, semolina, salt and sugar. Take a small pan.
  • Add some oil and fry the mustard seeds and curry leaves for a minute. Add them to the mixture and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • Then add the baking soda and gently mix it. Don't whisk the mixture after adding baking soda.
  • Take a Idli stand and brush the plates with little oil. Add the batter.
  • Steam in microwave for 2.5 minutes or in a Idli steamer for 15 minutes. You can use your momo steamer or any dish with small holes in a cooker filled it water and out the batter in small bowl to steam.
For Peanut-garlic chutney:
  • Take some oil in a pan. Fry the peanut until they turn brown. Add the garlic cloves and fry for a minute.
  • Take a blender or a mixer. Add the fried peanuts-garlic along with the other ingredients.
  • The chutney is ready. This can used with Dosas, Uttapam and Lemon rice also.
