Thought: I know a lot of us are missing the taste of yummy yummy momos in this pandemic situation. So, lets make some yummy ones in my style.

Momo shaping method: You can make any shape of your choice by following any youtube video. The main idea is just seal the edges using water while the momo masala mix is in the centre.

Ingredients:

For momo chutney:
  • 1-2 large tomatoes
  • 3-4 tsp white oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic
  • 5-6 whole red chillies soaked
  • salt, sugar, pepper and red chilli powder (as per taste)

For momo masala mix:
  • 3-5 pieces of boneless chicken or 200 gms of minced chicken
  • 1 large onion finely chopped or some spring onions finely chopped
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 2-3 cm ginger
  • 1 tsp soya sauce
  • 2-3 tsp mustard oil
  • 3-4 tsp chicken masala
  • Some chopped green chillies
  • Some chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt as per taste
*******You can make momos with any filling of your choice.

For dough:
  • 1 cup of maida or all purpose flour
  • 2-3 tsp white oil
  • a pinch of salt

Method:

Filling:
  • Take some chicken, some chopped onions, garlic cloves and some ginger. Add a tablespoon of soya sauce, very little oil and some salt. Boil it for 10 mins or microwave it for 5 mins.
  • Then blend everything into a thick paste.
  • Add some chicken masala, chopped green chillies and chopped coriander to the paste. And keep it aside.

Coating: Take some all purpose flour or maida. Add 2-3 tsp of white oil and a pinch of salt. Mix and add water to make a dough. Rest the dough for 10-15 mins covering it with a clean wet cloth.

Main process:
  • Make small balls out the dough. Roll them into  thinnest circular sheets that you can make. Put some filling in the centre and make the momo shapes.
  • Then steam them in a microwave with some water for 10mins or in a momo steamer for 15-20 mins. Don't forget to grease the momo pan before steaming with some oil.

For pan fried: Steam momos for 5 mins. Then take some oil in a non stick pan. Add the momos. As soon as the colour on both sides turns a bit brownish...cover the pan....and keeping adding some drizzles of water in between for another 5-8 mins.

Tadaaaaaa...... Momos are ready.

For momo chutney:
  • Blanch some tomatoes in a pan or microwave and remove the outer layer.
  • Take a pan add some oil, chopped onions, garlic and some soaked dry red chillies. Add some salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar. Stir fry for 5 mins. Add the blanched tomatoes. Stir for another 2-3 mins. Blend everything in a mixer.
  • Take some oil again. Add the paste. Add some chilli powder if you want and stir for 2 mins. Tadaaa chutney is ready.
